Welspun Enterprises Limited, a prominent infrastructure and energy arm of Welspun World, has won a significant contract from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to design, build, and operate a new 910 million liters per day (MLD) water treatment plant (WTP) at Panjrapur, Maharashtra. Valued at Rs. 3,145 crore, this project includes advanced civil, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation works, along with constructing a treated water sump and pumping station.
The contract encompasses both the design-build phase, which is set to be completed within 48 months, and a comprehensive operation and maintenance (OM) phase for 15 years thereafter. Welspun Enterprise’s technology partner for this project is Veolia Water Technologies, Malaysia, ensuring cutting-edge water management solutions for efficient and sustainable operations.
With this new contract, Welspun’s outstanding order book has risen substantially to Rs. 14,627 crore on a standalone basis. The company is a major player in water infrastructure, already handling key projects such as the 2000 MLD Bhandup WTP and the 418 MLD Dharavi wastewater treatment facility in Mumbai. After completing the Panjrapur project, Welspun will contribute significantly to treating nearly 70% of Mumbai’s freshwater requirements, a milestone that aligns with Welspun World’s vision of “Har Ghar se Har Dil Tak Welspun.”

Welspun’s Chairman, Mr. BK Goenka, highlighted the project as a crucial step toward strengthening the company’s leadership in the water sector, promoting water reuse, circularity, and sustainability. The Managing Director, Mr. Sandeep Garg, emphasized the importance of this initiative in addressing Mumbai’s rising water demands driven by rapid urbanization, while maintaining the lowest environmental footprint and conserving scarce land resources in the city.
This order reinforces Welspun Enterprises’ strategic growth focus on sustainable water infrastructure projects and enhances its solid portfolio across transportation, tunnelling, and water sectors in India.
