Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), India’s premier power equipment manufacturer and engineering firm, has received a critical Notification of Award (NOA) from NTPC Limited for the EPC contract of the 1×800 MW Darlipali Supercritical Thermal Power Project Stage-II. This prestigious order, valued at over Rs. 6,650 crore (excluding GST), marks a significant milestone for BHEL in reinforcing its position in the domestic power equipment sector.

The awarded contract encompasses engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) works including the design, engineering, supply of equipment, erection and commissioning, as well as civil works for the thermal power project located in Sundargarh district, Odisha. The project is to be executed under international competitive bidding, highlighting BHEL’s competitive edge and technical expertise.The Darlipali STPP Stage-II project, owned by NTPC—a Government of India enterprise, is set to be completed with Facilities Completion (COF) within 48 months from the date of award. Both BHEL and NTPC are Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs), making this a notable collaboration between two prominent government entities in the energy sector. Notably, this order does not qualify as a related party transaction.

This major EPC contract win underlines BHEL’s consistent capability to secure large-scale projects in the competitive power sector landscape, reflecting its pivotal role in India’s energy infrastructure development, particularly in supercritical technology-based thermal power generation.
