Knowledge Marine Engineering Works Ltd. has announced the receipt of its second milestone order for a state-of-the-art Green Tug from Visakhapatnam Port Authority. Valued at ₹384.33 crore and set to be executed over a 15-year period, the contract covers manning, operation, maintenance, and complete technical management of a 60-ton bollard pull electric tug under India’s Green Tug Transition Program (GTTP).
This award reaffirms the company’s reputation for technological innovation and reliability in marine operations. The zero-emission battery-operated Green Tug is aligned with global and national initiatives to decarbonize Indian ports and support climate commitments. The company’s expertise in battery management systems ensures high-efficiency energy architecture, operational safety, and robust lifecycle performance throughout the contract period.
With the Indian government advancing reforms for greener shipping under programs like GTTP and Maritime India Vision 2030, this contract signifies rising demand for low-emission support vessels. Replicating proven engineering processes across the fleet is expected to streamline costs and further position the company for future government and private contracts in a market estimated at ₹12,000 crore.
Commenting on the achievement, the CEO highlighted the strategic impact of consecutive 15-year green tug contracts, validation of the company’s technology, and the efficiency gains from synchronized procurement and construction. The contract strengthens leadership in sustainable maritime infrastructure and underscores commitment to environmental stewardship.
Founded in 2015, the company holds a diverse order book and continues its evolution from a small ship-repair operation to a key player in marine craft ownership and engineering solutions for Indian ports.
